Moessbauer analysis of clays and ceramic materials

Description
Moessbauer spectroscopy has been extensively applied to the study of clays and their behaviour during firing under various conditions. The method depends on the presence of iron in the studied materials and is using the nuclear gamma resonance absorption in 57Fe nuclei. The method was applied to the study of recent Peruvian clays after firing in air, as well as under reducing conditions. The results of the laboratory firing studies of the clays have been used in the interpretation of the Moessbauer data of 76 precolumbian sherds
