Solvation effects in complexing reactions

  • 1. Kazanskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ. (USSR)

Description

Effect of different type solvents on ground and excited states of complexes with charge transfer formed by iodine with dipropyl-, diphenyl-, tert.-butyl-phenylsulfide and tert-butylphenylselenide is characterized within the framework of a thermodynamic approach. In every of noncoordinating solvents relative enthalpy of complex solvation in the ground state is practically equal to the sum of enthalpies of reagent solvation. Account of complexing enthalpy between iodine and the solvent is required in solvents coordinating iodine during calculation of euthalpies of complex solvation between a donor and an acceptor. Linear relation between enthalpy and entropy of complexing is performed in all solvents. The method of determination of constants and enthalpies of complexing on the basis of measurements of iodine solution enthalpies in dilute solutions of donors is suggested
