New optical detector using a high Tc superconductive BaYCuO/Ag metal composite thick film

  • 1. National Defense Academy, Electrical Engineering Dept., Yokosuka 239 (Japan)

Description

For a BaYCuO superconductor having a transition temperature Tc near 77 Κ, one of the promising applications is as an optical detector or radiation sensor. Some work hass been reported using the superconductive material as a Josephson device for detecting far infrared (FIR) or millimeter wave radiation. The authors propose a new sensitive optical detector which uses material with Tc close to liquid nitrogen temperature. This is experimentally demonstrated for a Ba2Y1Cu3O7-chi/Ag2O metal composite superconductive thick film2 at 77 Κ and CO2 and Ar+ laser wavelengths
