Following a discussion of acoustic emission techniques, the plastic deformation of metals and its evolution towards fracture is studied. Work devoted to the industrial use of acoustic emission is surveyed: crack detection during welding and heat treatments; fracture forecasting (fracture by static overload, in-service fracture); defect localization

Apres avoir presente les techniques de l'emission acoustique, on discute de la deformation plastique des metaux et de son evolution vers la rupture. On rappelle l'essentiel des travaux consacres a l'usage industriel de l'emission acoustique: detection des fissurations lors du soudage et des traitements thermiques; prevision des ruptures (rupture par surcharge statique, rupture en service); localisation des defauts
