Description
Purpose: To improve stress corrosion cracking resistance by substantially eliminating fine defects. Constitution: After finally annealing a fuel can, its inner surface is removed by about 5 - 50 μm by a mechanical or electrochemical method and then precise finishing is applied to a surface roughness of less than 2 μm Rmax. By the two methods, fine defects caused by the cold working step or the like are eliminated. In addition, the f value in the radial direction showing the anisotropy in the assembled texture of the fuel can, that is, the fr value is set within a range from 0.6 to 0.7. This enables to obtain a fuel can made of zirconium alloy with improved stress corrosion cracking resistance. (Takahashi, M.)
