Description

Sandwich samples consisting of alternating layers of magnetic and non-magnetic metals are investigated using electron diffraction methods. Fe, Co, Ni, Cr, Gd, Dy magnetic metals are used. Tin has been used in all cases as a nonmagnetic metal. Samples are prepared by spraying in oil-free vacuum of 2x10-8 tor using solid state lasers. It is shown that the above method of preparing multilayer films hinders the formation of interstitial phases due to the adsorption of oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, i.e. gases the partial pressure of which is considerable even under conditions of ultrahigh vacuum. The combination of electron diffraction investigations with the analysis of Moessbauer spectra of samples has permitted to obtain reliable data on the phase composition and structure of these multilayer films
