Radioprotective effect of 2-mercaptopropionylglycine on the testes of prenatally irradiated mice
Description
Pregnant female mice were irradiated with 60Co gamma rays in presence or absence of MPG between 14.5 and 18.25 days of gestation with 0.5 and 1.5 Gy. Male offspring were killed 4 weeks after birth and the testes examined histologically. Results indicate that the extent of testicular damage depends both on the exposure dose and fetal age at the time of irradiation. Pretreatment of MPG before irradiation significantly inhibits the body weight loss and deleterious effects of irradiation on the testes of offspring. (author)
