The Brookhaven Accelerator Test Facility Nd:YAG laser

Description
A Nd:YAG photocathode laser system is currently being assembled to service the BNL Accelerator Test Facility. The system utilizes a diode-pumped, actively mode-locked Nd:YAG oscillator as the seed for two lamp pumped amplifier stages and subsequent frequency quadruplying. This laser will simultaneously illuminate the metal cathode of a 1 1/2 cell S-band RF gun with a quantum efficiency of 1x10-4 at 266 nm, and provide 10 mJ of 1 μm light to control an optical semiconductor switch of the facility's CO2 laser for laser particle acceleration experiments. Alternatively, pulse trains of up to 250 micropulses can be generated for FEL oscillator experiments. Up to 200 μJ at 266 nm in a single pulse are required for sufficient charge to be injected into the facility's 50 MeV linac and delivered to the various beamline experiments
