A cytogenetic study of persons exposed to low dose external radiation within a period of 4-15 years

The findings of a cytogenetic study for 44 persons were reported.This study was performed within a period of 4-15 years after a single exposure to γ-rays at low dose (10.0-46.8 rad). Among these persons, 44 cases were found to be with chromosome aberrations and 29 cases with micronuclei. The results indicate that frequencies of chromosomal aberrations and micronuclei in the irradiated groups increased significantly. The majority of the aberration type of chromosomes were acentric aberrations. Most of the dicentrics and centric rings were not accompanied by acentric fragments. During a period of 4-15 years after exposure, a relationship between the radiation doses and the frequencies of chromosomal aberrations and of micronuclei was not found
