Full text: The use of the photoelectrochemical (PEC) route in hydrogen production is a promising, valuable, clean and efficient way of storing solar energy for use in hydrogen-powered fuel cells. Iron oxide (α-Fe2O3) is an attractive photo electrode in PEC cell due to its constructive bandgap of ∼ 2.2 eV, lying in the visible region. This paper presents a review of the different methods of Fe2O3 thin film production and the characterization of the thin film and its application for photo-electrochemical hydrogen production.
