Highlights: • US-guided transoral core needle biopsy (CNB) is safe, feasible and accurate. • There are advantages over other modalities for some medial head and neck pathology. • Technique enhances diagnosis, informs decision making, potentially avoids surgery. • US-guided transoral CNB is simple to perform requiring a short general anaesthetic.
