Contamination immobilization by polymer coating of large size wastes
Description
The aim is to avoid cutting large size waste to fill containers. The container is realized around the contaminated part by spraying a polymer coating in compliance with safety regulation on radioactive waste transport or storage. The process seems well adapted to nuclear facility dismantling where unusual waste have to be processed concrete or graphite blocks, lead shields, pumps etc. Life size tests validate the process
Abstract (French)
Le but de ce procede est d'eviter l'operation de decoupe de dechets de grandes dimensions pour les mettre en futs ou en caissons. Le ''conteneur'' est realise autour de la piece contaminee, par projection de revetement polymere permettant au dechet ainsi traite de respecter les Regles Fondamentales de Surete concernant le transport et le stockage des dechets nucleaires. Ce procede semble particulierement bien adapte pour le demantelement d'installations nucleaires ou l'on a a traiter des dechets inhabituels: bloc de beton, bloc de graphite, protection de plomb, corps de pompe, etc...
