Gravitational and electromagnetic wave coupling at high frequency

Description

Further details are given on the subject of an earlier work entitled Approxinate radiative solutions of Einstein-Maxwell equations. The method is derived from the W.K.B. method. The necessary and adequate conditions are obtained for the gravitational and electromagnetic fields to be an asymptotic solution of the Einstein-Maxwell system at each order of approximation, without averaging over a space-time region. The asymptotic validity at zero order gives the algebraic conditions on the gravitational and electromagnetic waves, the validity at the next order gives both the propagation equations for the significant part of these waves and also supplementary conditions. These depend on the respective orders of magnitude of the two parameters defining on the one hand the amount of perturbation with respect to the basic field, on the other the oscillation with respect to the amplitude variations. Abstract (French)

On donne des precisions et complete un travail precedent intitule Approximate radiative solutions of Einstein-Maxwell equations. La methode est inspiree de la methode W.K.B. On obtient les conditions necessaires et suffisantes pour que les champs gravitationnels et electromagnetiques soient solution asymptotique du systeme d'Einstein-Maxwell, a chaque ordre d'approximation, sans introduire de moyennisation sur un domaine d'espace-temps. La validite asymptotique a l'ordre zero donne les conditions algebriques sur l'onde gravitationnelle et l'onde electromagnetique, la validite a l'ordre zero donne les conditions algebriques sur l'oredre gravitationnelle et l'ordre electromagnetique, la validite a l'ordre suivant donne d'une part des equations de propagation pour la partie significative de ces ondes, d'autre part des conditions supplementaires. Ces conditions dependent des ordres de grandeurs respectifs des deux parametres qui caracterisent d'une part la grandeur de la perturbation par rapport au champ de base, d'autre part l'oscillation par rapport aux variations d'amplitude.
