Containments in USA

Description

Different types of US nuclear power plant containments are discussed. Current trend is showing a tendency to the use of large rotary shells for containments. Several types of containments are listed according to type of material used, shape and system (reduced pressure or full pressure). Full-pressure reinforced concrete containments of a cylindrical shape with a dome, full-pressure spherical steel containments for PWR's and full-pressure cylindrical steel containments with outer reinforced concrete structures are described. Also dealt with are containments with reduced pressure and ice condenser for PWR reactors, and containments with reduced pressure type Mark I-III for BWR reactors. (Pu)
