Construction of a 3 MeV ampere-intensity recirculating electron beam system: A progress report

  • 1. National Electrostatics Corp., Middleton, WI (USA)

Description

Construction of a 3 MeV electrostatic accelerator designed to recirculate DC electron beams with intensities up to 5 A is in progress. The test facility includes a 3 MV, SF6 insulated vertical accelerator with parallel accelerator and decelerator tubes, diagnostic equipment, and vacuum and beam line components to bend the electron beam 1800 and return it to the terminal. Special consideration has been given to cathode, collector, and optical design to allow very high recovery efficiency at any current from 100 μA to 5 A. (orig.)
