Description
This paper discusses the relevance of symmetries and topology in the understanding of quantum Hall effect. We specifically consider a simple model of an electron in a two dimensional periodic potential subject to constant electric and magnetic fields. The work addresses the vanishing of the longitudinal magnetoresistance and the quantization of the Hall conductivity, and also the calculation of non-perturbative corrections
