Description
The velocity field for monopole vibrations of large nuclear systems is shown to obey the classical equation for an elastic medium, rather than a fluid. In the surface the velocity field becomes an increasing exponential. For 208Pb, these effects combine to give motion similar to the Tassie model. (orig.)
