Development of a large plasma generator with high proton yield

  • 1. Japan Atomic Energy Research Inst., Naka, Ibaraki (Japan). Naka Fusion Research Establishment

Description

A large plasma generator was developed for a joint experiment at NBI test stand in CADARACHE. This is a semi-cyclindrical magnetic multipole plasma generator with the extractable area of 8 cm x 120 cm. Beam extraction from central 12cm x 27cm region showed the proton ratio of 91% at the H+ extraction current density of 185 mA/cm2. The plasma uniformity of j 9% was obtained by the probe measurement over the convex area of 8cm x 100cm. The latest results on negative ion beam development are briefly mentioned.
