Interaction of metallic uranium with NO2 in TBP medium

Description
The process of low-temperature waterless nitration of metallic uranium in TBP-tetrachloroethylene-NO2 medium is studied. It is determined that dissolution of uranium in the medium of dipolar aproton solvent (TBP, dimethyl formamide, acetonitrile, nitromethane, DMSO, diethyl formamide) takes place with formation of U(VI) compounds. Activation energy of the process (48.2 kJ/mol) and relative reaction order by NO2 (1) are calculated. Effect of TBP concentration and water additions on the nitration process is studied. It is determined that the nitration rate is maximal when water content in the TBP-tetrachloroethylene system is 1.0-2.0 vol.%
Abstract (Russian)
Изучен процесс низкотемпературного неводного нитрования металлического урана в системе ТБФ-тетрахлорэтилен-NO2. Установлено, что растворение урана в среде диполярного апротонного растворителя (ТБФ, ДМФА, ацетонитрил, нитрометан, ДМСО, диэтилформамид) протекает с образованием соединений U(VI). Рассчитаны энергия активации процесса (48.8 кДж/моль) и относительный порядок реакции по NO2 (1). Изучено влияние концентрации ТБФ и добавок воды на процесс нитрования. Установлено, что скорость нитрования максимальна при содержании воды в системе ТБФ-тетрахлорэтилен 1.0-2.0 об.%Additional details
