Tests of T-invariance with slow neutrons

Creators

  • 1. Univ. of Virginia, Charlottesville

Description

The polarization of neutrons propagating through a medium with spin-polarization S-vector may undergo precession about and towards [k-vector x S-vector]. Either effect is an unambiguous indicator of T-noninvariance. For S greater than or equal to 1, a similar effect, requiring target spin-alignment only, occurs if there are suitable T-nonvariant interactions even if these conserve parity exactly. 10 refs
