Description
The crucial ingredient in the model of a central computing facility for the SSC, is the reliance on cheap farms of microprocessors for most of the computing needs. It is clear that without the implementation of such farms, either within high energy physics or by industrial sources, SSC computing cannot be done without an enormous and unacceptable increase in the cost. We must have both the hardware and software ability to make microprocessor farms work. The other components of the model appear to be well within reasonable extrapolations of today's computing related technology
