Description
For the first time shallow benthic foraminifera (Ammonia tepida) have been cultured under controlled conditions in a defined multi-trace element environment. μSyXRF measurements enabled to determine the incorporation of Ni, Cu and As into the foraminferal calcite: This is the basis to derive the first partition coefficients for Ni and As between foraminiferal calcite and the sea water in which the chambers have been grown. The results are compared with those obtained by LA-ICP/MS. By confocal experiments the spatial distribution of trace elements in whole undestroyed foraminifera could be reconstructed.
