Use of new procedures for removing samples from rough surfaces

  • 1. Statni ustav jaderne, chemicke a biologicke ochrany, v.v.i., 26231 Milin (Czech Republic)

Description

When taking a sample from rough surfaces, such as asphalt, concrete or very corroded iron, which have a large sorption surface, the abrasion material breaks, which results in failure of the sample abrasion, and possible contamination of the operator. Attention was turned to adhesive tapes. As part of this approach, three types of adhesive tape were tested: regular painter's paper tape, textile adhesive tape and standard adhesive tape. The main advantage of using adhesive tapes is the shorter stay of the operator in the contaminated area when taking samples. A comparison was made of the suitability of using adhesive tapes, removable coatings and classic abrasive materials for wiping contaminated rough surfaces. (authors)
