Utilizing tensioned fabric structures for waste processing and storage facilities: Clear-span open-quotes temporary-permanentclose quotes structures provide new opportunities for operations
Creators
Description
Often radioactive waste disposal operations are temporary but still need durable, secure shelters and storage facilities. The ideal enclosure would be inexpensive, durable for extended projects, suitable for rapid erection with or without permanent footings, and weathertight and easily moved. Tensioned fabric structure technology comes close to meeting all requirements. This article discusses this technology in terms of how it could be used at for example Rocky Flats. The background of modern tention fabric structures is discussed along with fabric structures and building codes, characteristics, and design considerations. 4 figs
