A new 15N+ ion beam source

Description

This letter describes the operation of a Ti(CxN1-x)-cone in a sputter source to produce a high-intensity 15N+ ion beam in a 5.5 MV tandem accelerator. A comparison is made of the ion source operation with the conventional gaseous source and with the solid cone. A characteristic feature of the ion source by the new method is a higher beam current intensity in connection with the small consumption of 15N2 gas. (orig.)
