Radioactive waste: the problem of plutonium

Description

Federal policies deferring the continuation of plutonium recycling as a nuclear safeguards measure have caused concern about the radioactivity of the plutonium wastes. However, it is demonstrated that the radioactivity of unrecycled plutonium is equivalent to that associated with standard recycling systems. Once-through fuel cycles are discussed for such applications
