Diamagnetic analoga of molecule-based magnetic materials

Description

Full text: The design of high-dimensional magnetic molecular systems built from coordination compounds has recently been a point of attention. The variety of coordination compounds is a very useful tool to build magnetic molecular architectures interesting for their properties, which arise from the interaction among their subunits. Strategies based on the reaction of appropriate bridging ligands as superexchange pathways with paramagnetic metal ions allow the synthesis of polymeric species with increasing nuclearity and dimensionality and magnetic properties may, in any sense, be tailored. Coordination compounds with diamagnetic metal centers, (e.g. cations of calcium, zink, cadmium) are often very useful analoga in the design such magnetic systems. (author)
