Li2WO4-K2WO4-WO3 system

Description
A study has been made of the system Li2WO4-K2WO4-WO3 by visual thermal, differential thermal, X-ray diffraction and infrared spectroscopy methods. The crystallization surface has been constructed. 18 non-variant points, 7 triple eutectic points and 11 transitory points are found in the system. The formation of six new phases is established of which five phases melt in a congruent way. The composition of the phases obtained, melting point and density are determined. The abudance of compounds formed as a result of interaction of Li2WO4, K2WO4 and WO3 can be related to the distorted tetrahedral structure of WO42- ions which are capable of co-ordinating molecules of WO3 to produce more complex crystalline forms. The ternary phases obtained have the form of blocks, consisting of filament-like chains and spirals. The formation of inorganic polymeric compounds seems to take place
