Description

The expert system TOTEM (French acronym for Material and Time Optimal Processing), used in computer aided manufacturing, is presented. The flow chart describing the TOTEM operation principles is given. The calculation rules which allow the optimization of the fabrication means are summarized. The steps of the TOTEM operations and an application example are included. TOTEM allows the standardization of the manufacturing specifications and takes into account technological improvements

Abstract (French)

Le systeme expert TOTEM (Traitement Optimise Temps Et Matieres), utilise dans la conception des gammes de fabrication, est presente. L'organigramme qui decrit le principe de fonctionnement de TOTEM est inclus. Les regles de calcul qui permettent la prise en compte optimale des moyens de production sont resumees. Les etapes du deroulement de TOTEM et un exemple d'application sont fournies. TOTEM permet la normalisation des gammes de fabrication et egalement la prise en compte des evolutions technologiques
