Description
Gas amplification factors for Ne-H2 Penning mixtures, at a filling pressure of 730 hPa, have been measured using a coaxial proportional counter. The results showed that the Zastawny and the modified Rose-Korff formulae satisfactorily describe the data over the range of variables studied. Diethorn formula can be applicable only for small H2 concentrations (<5.6x104). The formulae of Khristov, Rose-Korff and Williams and Sara are unsuitable for describing the data over a wide range of the electric field strength. Depending on the specific application, either the Zastawny or the modified Rose-Korff characteristic constants, determined from these experiments, can be used for the prediction of the performance of proportional counters filled with these Penning mixtures.
