CT features of intradiaphragmatic pulmonary sequestration in children

Description

Objective: To study the CT features of intradiaphragmatic pulmonary sequestration (IPS) in children. Methods: The clinical records and CT of 7 children with pathologically proven IPS were analyzed retrospectively. Results: The IPS involved the left hemidiaphragm with the diaphragm muscles encasing the masses in all cases. The lesions were crescentic and mainly solid (4); oval and mixed cystic-solid (3). The solid component enhanced with intravenous contrast significantly (6) or slightly in 1 child with congenital cystic adenomatous malformation (CCAM) type II. The feeding arteries arose from the celiac trunk (3), abdominal aorta (2), left gastric artery (1), or from both the celiac trunk and splenic artery (1). The IPS was associated with CCAM type II and fused kidney in 1 child. Conclusion: CT features are reliable for the diagnosis of IPS. (authors)
