Mixed-mode nuclear shell-model

  • 1. Department of Physics and Astonomy, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA 70803 (United States)

Description

A mixed-mode nuclear shell-model for systems where there is competition between two or more principle modes is considered. The theory is applied to 24 Mg where, respectively, the deformation-driving quadrupole and spin-orbit interactions dominate the dynamics. The theory is also used to explore the X (5) symmetry along the U (5) SU (3) leg of the Casten Triangle of the Interacting Boson Model . The results suggest that the mixed-mode concept can be used to track the dynamics of a nuclear system that is driven by competing modes. (Author)
