Development of a Neutron Guide Tube Fabrication Technique II

Description

In order to elevate a domestic basic science and technology to an international level, KAERI started on a project called 'An infrastructure construction for cold neutron research and utilization technique development' in July 2003, has developed key components such as a cold neutron source, a system driving part for a smooth operation of a cold neutron source and a neutron guide tube. Among those components, the neutron guide is such a complex product form pure and applied science that only a few companies can produce it, due to a difficulty of possessing the techniques such as substrate preparation, multilayer coating, gluing, measurement for quality assurance and even though alignment. KAERI secures the key techniques such as a layer stabilization, layer uniformity, glass assembly, etc. and also a super mirror coating through a practice of fabricating nickel guides. The objective of this report is to fabricate neutron guides with a high quality through establishing a procedure of equipment maintenance and quality test on each progress step for the guide production
