Description
Hydrous manganese oxide (HMO) has been assessed for the removal of one of the important fission product cesium from aqueous solutions by employing radiotracer technique. The batch type study reveals that with increase in sorptive concentration (10-8 to 10-2 mol dm-3) and temperature (298 to 328 K) favor the removal of Cs(I) and the concentration dependence data show the validity of Freundlich adsorption isotherm. Moreover, the solid HMO is found to be fairly radiation stable towards the 11.1 GBq neutron source (associated with a nominal γ-dose of 1.72 Gy/h) for the removal of Cs(I), indicating its potential application in radioactive waste management.
