Three dimensional free boundary calculations using a spectral Green's function method
Creators
Description
A 3-D free boundary MHD equilibrium code that is computationally efficient has been developed. The code is a synthesis of two existing codes: VMEC (Variational Moments Equilibrium Code) and NESTOR (Neumann Solver for Toroidal Regions). This talk discusses the basic MHD variational principle and describes both codes. Free boundary force balance coupling of plasma to vacuum is considered. Sample data from application of the code to an l=2 stellarator is shown. The material is presented as view graphs
