Description

The paper discusses two types of secondary pumps and straight-tube steam generators for future LMFBRs. The centrifugal pump type as used in SPX-1 and the mixed-flow pump as designed for SPX-2 are compared. The results of detailed evaluations and calculations for the mixed-flow secondary pump are presented. For the straight-tube modular steam generators, development work was undertaken mainly for the reference power stations of the French Superphenix family. The paper presents the results of investigations regarding the advantages of the straight-tube arrangement, the reliability of the techniques employed, the hydraulic features, the use of different materials and the options for future LMFBR steam generators.
