Retrospective comparison of stereotactic brain implants integrating current treatment-planning software

Description
Twenty-two patients with malignant brain tumor were treated with stereotactic interstitial implants. Original stereotactic CT imaging data were obtained, and treatment planning was compared retrospectively with current capabilities available through the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), Brain Program software. Identical tumor volumes, seed activities, array geometry, and catheter trajectories were used. Treatment planning was compared with date on recurrence data and location available from follow-up. Treatment volume comparisons are presented. Improvements are discussed. The UCSF Brain Program provides improved and optimal integration of the BRW stereotactic frame system and CT imaging for boost treatment of malignant brain tumors with I-125 encapsulated sources
