Space-time kinetics modelling of Indian NPPs

  • 1. Nuclear Safety Analysis Division, Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, Mumbai (India)

Description

Scaling up of power rating and size of new generation reactor cores to achieve economic gains without compromising safety has rendered renewed topicality to the space-time kinetics studies. With induction of numerous types of reactors with diverse design in Indian nuclear map, it was imperative to develop an in-house detailed multi-physics core modelling capability in AERB. Consistent with this objective a generic space-time kinetics code (TRIKIN) has been developed at AERB. Present paper will provide a brief overview of space-time modelling methodologies in use and modelling aspects adapted in TRIKIN code. Analytical findings from the numerical simulation of some of the reactivity initiated transients in power reactors has also been discussed
