Design and development of control system for RIB material science beam line

  • 1. Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre, Kolkata (India)

Description

A remote control and monitoring system has been developed for the material science beam line of VECC Radioactive Ion Beam (RIB) facility. The beam line consists of an ECR ion source operating at 2.45 GHz with associated high voltage power supplies, a dipole magnet, a solenoid magnet, a 33.7 MHz RFQ, quadrupole magnets, line gate valves and faraday cups for beam measurements at different positions. The control system has been designed using a NI Compact DAQ module along with a 8051 microcontroller board, and the GUI, running in a PC, has been developed in LabView software to control all the parameters associated with the beam line. The control system facilitates monitoring of data and status of the beam line components as well as supervisory control of the equipment's. This paper describes the detailed design and development of control system. (author)
