Verification of extended nuclide chain of MASTER with CASMO-3 and HELIOS

Description

The simplified nuclide chain used in the current version of MASTER has been extended for MOX and Th fuel assemblies. The extended nuclide chain has been verified for several types of fuel assemblies such as KOFA, MOX and (Th + Pu)O2 fuel assemblies through comparison of multiplication factors and number densities of major nuclides as a function of burnup. Cross sections for those fuels were provided by CASMO-3 or HELLIOS. The results show that the extended nuclide chain gives small improvement in accuracy for conventional Uranium fuel assemblies, and relatively large enhancement for MOX and (Th+Pu)O2 fuel assemblies, compared to the simplified nuclide chain.
