Study of the natC(3He,2α)7Be and 9Be(3He,αn)7Be nuclear reactions and their applications for wear measurements

  • 1. Inst. of Nuclear Research of the Hungarian Academy of Science, Debrecen (Hungary)

Description

Kapton (C22H10O5N2) and beryllium samples were irradiated with 28 MeV 3He beam in order to determine the cross-section of the above reactions by using the stacked-foil technique. Stacks of Kapton-Al and Be-Al foil-pairs were also irradiated for investigation of the recoil-implantation of the 7Be into a depth of a few micrometers and to determine the implanted activity in the function of the bombarding energy. With this method the wear of such materials can be measured which do not contain proper element for charged particle activation. The knowledge of the above cross-sections is also important from the point of view of astrophysics and nuclear transmutation
