The possibilities of storing radioactive waste materials in salt deposits in the Netherlands

This report gives a summarised overview of the results from an examination of the possibilities of storing radioactive waste materials in salt deposits in the Netherlands. The present day situation is described with respect to radioactive waste and future developments. Five working groups: financial, organisational and juridical aspects, examination of salt deposits, mining and technical aspects, risk analysis, and topsoil storage were involved and their reports are included. The criteria for the selection of a salt dome are outlined. International research into the permanent disposal of radioactive waste is discussed and storage methods, other than in geological formations, are described. (C.F.)
