Study of nuclear reactions and π meson scattering under high vacuum at a meson plant
Description
New and significant result in the study of the structure of the atomic nucleus may be obtained by using nuclear reactions caused by pions under conditions of good energy (about 10-4) and angular (about 10 mrad) resolution. The main directions of the studies planned on the high vacuum channel and spectrometers of the IYaI AN SSSR (USSR Academy of Sciences Institute of Nuclear Studies) meson plant are considered. There is a discussion of the physical principles of creation of this system and the factors influencing the angular and energy resolution. The proposed installation consists of a dispersion magnetic-optical channel (pion source angle of 200) and two magnetic spectrometers rotating coaxially around a common target in the horizontal plane. The dispersion plane of the channel and spectrometers is vertical. The calculations and optimization of the system were performed in first order matrix theory
