Explanation for the Schottky-like anomally in the low temperature heat capacity of Lu-H alloys

  • 1. Ames Lab.-DOE and Dept. of materials Science and Engineering, Iowa State Univ., Ames

Description

The Schottky-like anomaly observed in Lu-H alloys contain- ing 0.035 to 1-- 2.0 at.% H is due to H tunneling between various configurations of ''H - other interstitial'' (N, O and possibly C) pairs formed in Lu. As the H content increases beyond 2.0 at.%, the formation of ''di-hydragon - other interstitial'' groups is thought to prevent tunneling
