Medullary carcinoma of the thyroid and 99mTc(V)-DMSA scintigraphy

Description
99mTc(V)-DMSA scintigraphy is a non-invasive diagnostic tool for diagnostic differentiation and localisation of medullary carcinoma of the thyroid. For primary tumours its sensitivity is 77%. This diagnostic means is not only helpful for the diagnosis of primary tumours, but is especially informative for recidives and metastases of the medullary carcinoma of the thyroid. Its sensitivity for recidives and metastases is 66%. The sensitivity obtained in our study, which included four patients, corresponded to that reported in the literature. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Mit der 99mTc(V)-DMSA-Szintigraphie steht ein nicht-invasives Verfahren zur Artdiagnose und Lokalisation des medullaeren Schilddruesenkarzinoms zur Verfuegung, dessen Sensitivitaet beim Primaertumor 77% betraegt. Nicht nur in der Lokalisationsdiagnostik von Primaertumoren, sondern vor allem auch in der Diagnostik von Rezidiven und Metastasen liefert dieses Verfahren wichtige Informationen; hier liegt die Sensitivitaet bei 66%. Unsere Ergebnisse der 99mTc(V)-DMSA-Szintigraphie bei vier Patienten mit medullaerem Schilddruesenkarzinom entsprechen annaehernd den in der Literatur mitgeteilten Werten. (orig.)Additional details
