Description
High density U Mo alloys are promising for its utilization in the reconversion of HEU fuels to LEU for research nuclear reactors. Ought to the thermomechanical properties of the alloy U Mo and its interaction with aluminium it is necessary to develop new technologies and fabrication procedures to qualify this material as a nuclear fuel. In this work a review is made about the evolution of the idea and PIE experiments of monolithic LEU U 7 Mo fuel with Zr-4 cladding. The irradiation took place in the frame of international qualification efforts of dispersed and monolithic U Mo fuels. Dispersed and monolithic fuels, elaborated and in intermediate steps of development, are discussed. (author)

La utilizacion de aleaciones de alta densidad de uranio molibdeno en fase gama (U Mo) permitiria avanzar en la reconversion de combustibles nucleares de reactores civiles que se utilizan para investigacion, ensayo de materiales o produccion de radioisotopos, que aun funcionan con enriquecimientos de uranio mayores al 20 %. Debido a las propiedades termo-mecanicas de la aleacion U Mo y su interaccion con el aluminio es necesario implementar nuevos desarrollos tecnologicos y procesos de fabricacion para poder calificar este material como combustible nuclear. Se hace una resena desde la evolucion de la idea a los resultados bajo irradiacion de miniplacas combustibles monoliticas de la aleacion en fase gama metaestable de uranio -enriquecido al 20% en el isotopo 235U- con 7% en peso de molibdeno (U 7 Mo) y revestimiento de Zircaloy-4. La irradiacion se llevo a cabo en el marco de esfuerzos internacionales para calificar la aleacion U Mo, ya sea utilizada en forma de polvo disperso o como nucleo monolitico. Se comentan tambien otras alternativas elaboradas, o en etapas intermedias de desarrollo, de combustibles dispersos y monoliticos de U 7 Mo. (autor)Files
