Description
Two major Westinghouse design programs have culminated in the safest and most economical nuclear plant designs in existence: The advanced pressurized water reactor (APWR) and the advanced passive design. The advanced passive design meets the industry need for an advanced smaller plant. The Westinghouse AP600 design, which unites the best of proven nuclear power technology with natural safety features, is conceptually complete. Westinghouse is currently engaged in a 120 million Dollar program (U.S.) to perform sufficient design work for Standard Safety Analysis Report, expected in mid-1992. (orig./DG)
Abstract (German)
Zwei bedeutende Entwicklungsprojekte von Westinghouse fuehrten zu den derzeit sichersten und wirtschaftlichsten Auslegungen von KKW, und zwar der 'Advanced Pressurized Water Reactor' (APWR) (fortgeschrittener Druckwasserrektor) und die weiterentwickelte passive Auslegung (AP). Die weiterentwickelte passive Auslegung entspricht dem Bedarf der Industrie nach einer kleineren, weiterentwickelten Auslegung. Die AP600-Auslegung von Westinghouse verknuepft das Beste aus der erprobten Kernkrafttechnik mit natuerlichen Sicherheitsvorkehrungen und ist im Konzept vollstaendig. Derzeit befasst Westinghouse sich im Rahmen eines Programmes mit der Erarbeitung einer ausreichenden Auslegung zur Erstellung eines Mitte 1992 erwarteten Standardsicherheitsberichtes (SSAR).
