Use of nuclear power plants for heat supply
Description
The problems are discussed of using nuclear reactors as sources in the district heating system. With regard to the safety of the heat supply and with economy in mind nuclear heating sources should be conceived such as to over a maximum of 50 to 75% of the total heat supply to the district heating system. Peak heat supply should be provided from local sources burning fossil fuels. Attention is also centred on some technical aspects as is the heating of water in the system by the supply of steam from various stages of the turbine or by installing special heating plant (back-pressure) turbines. The reduction of power output lost owing to heat generation from the nuclear power plant may be provided by installing a suitable heat accumulation system. Briefly described is the use of the Temelin nuclear power plant for supplying hot water and steam for heating the town of Ceske Budejovice. (Z.M.). 4 figs., 1 tab
