Nuclear fusion and fission in the same reactor

Description
It has been suggested that a hybrid reactor could solve energy problems as soon as in 10 years. The principle is to generate helium from deuterium and tritium ions within a magnetic mirror installation, ('tandem mirror' of Livermore lab.), to use it for cooling purposes in the splitting of uranium in the form of pellets for breeding of fast neutrons which are caught in a lithium layer and breed tritium, thus providing replenishment for the first process stage. Uranium 233 is also generated which can be fed to high temperature reactors of the Canadian type. (A.L.)
