Large underground caverns - precedent experience study. Phase 1: global survey - key findings. V. 1: text

Description

Data compiled from various published and unpublished sources, on the construction of large underground caverns, has been drawn together here in order to produce a comparative reference database of precedent practice which could be used to inform engineers responsible for the preliminary design work for an underground radioactive disposal facility below NIREX's Sellafield site. This compilation, known as the Global Survey, is divided into six sections, including, the scope of the data compiled, cavern geometrical characteristics (such as span and width) in terms of type and geology, any special reinforcement practices and rock mass classification assessments.
